Report from safc.com

TEENAGER Michael Reddy came off the substitutes' bench to grab a hat-trick as Sunderland cruised to victory against the Dutch part-timers.

Reddy, who replaced Frenchman Cedric Bardon at half-time, scored three goals in the last 20 minutes, all from close range, to complete the rout in what was little more than a training session for Peter Reid's side.

Apeldoornse play in the third tier of the Dutch amateur league, the equivalent of three leagues below the Third Division in England, and struggled to match Sunderland's pace and power from start to finish.

But it was a good work-out for Reid's men who will face much stiffer opposition when they take on Heerenveen on Saturday.

Sunderland made their intentions clear in the second minute when Bardon, who again put in a tidy performance, hit the post with a fierce drive. The non-leaguers hung on until the 18th minute when John Oster's through ball found Kevin Kyle and the Scottish striker slotted under Sandor van der Esschert from 10 yards out.

The Black Cats went two ahead in the next minute through Tom Peeters, his first goal since signing from KV Mechelen last month. The best goal of the game came in the 25th minute when midfielder Thomas Butler skipped past his marker before unleashing a right-foot shot from just outside the area which flew into the top corner.

Don Hutchison got his name onto the scoresheet just after the break when he sent a left-foot shot past van der Esschert to make it 4-0. Kyle grabbed his second and Sunderland's fifth in the 66th minute before Reddy took over with three late goals as the part-timers tired.

Oster put Sunderland 8-0 ahead in the 83rd minute before Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Reddy made it nine two minutes from time. Apeldoornse managed just one shot on target during the 90 minutes and it came in the 73rd minute but keeper Andy Marriott was not troubled.

Sunderland end their five-day tour of Holland on Saturday night against Heerenveen, who will compete in the Champions' League this season.

Sunderland: Marriott; McCartney, P. Butler, Craddock, Kilbane; Hutchison (Roy 68), T. Butler, Peeters, Oster; Kyle, Bardon (Reddy 46).
