Keane Announces New Squad Numbers
Thursday, 07 August 2008 16:45

Sunderland have announced their squad numbers for the upcoming Premier League season.

The list, which usually gives us a good indication of "who goes where" in the first team pecking order, sees number movements for Dean Whitehead (8 to 6), Anthony Stokes (9 to 44, a sure-fire hint that he's not in Roy Keane's immediate plans) and Daryl Murphy (11 to 14).

New signings Teemu Tainio (4), Steed Malbranque (8) and El Hadji Diouf (11) all make it into Keano's "first XI" while youngsters such as Conor Hourihane and Jordan Henderson also get numbers.

For the record, Sunderland currently do not have a number 3 or a number 9, giving more hints that Roy Keane is looking to sign a new left back and a striker.
