Seven of Sunderland's players have been named in what will be the first Ireland squad for Giovanni Trappatoni.
Although the squad of 40 was picked by his assistants - Marco Tardelli and Liam Brady - the squad, which will be trimmed down to 28 was announced today for a close season training camp in the Algarve, before Ireland play friendly against Serbia on May 24, and Columbia on May 29. The Sunderland players involved are: Paul McShane, Liam Miller, Andy Reid, Roy O'Donovan, David Connolly, Daryl Murphy and Anthony Stokes. Expect a few of those names to be cut though, especially since only Reid and Murphy are the only two who are getting regular first team football under Roy Keane at the moment!
