Site History
OneSunderland.com been online since July 4th 2001, (and since May 2006 as 1Sunderland.com) but the team
behind OneSunderland/1Sunderland have been covering SAFC for a lot longer than
that!
We first started out in March 1998, with a small site called
"MackemNet". Everything existed on one page, with everything like news
and match reports existing on the same page. When you consider the
large background image we used then (okay, we were novices then!), it
took a long time to load!
Things have improved since then. Around a year later, we redesigned
ourselves as "MackemOnLine". This lasted for a season (with a better
design, this time it did look half decent), before we changed to
SAFCnet.
SAFCnet was a joint production between MackemOnLine and long-running
SAFC site SAFCworld. With a sleek design (with a picture of Micky Gray
featuring heavily on the main menu, for around a year anyway), and
regularly updated news, the popularity of the site grew to new
levels... until we appeared in the Sunderland Echo in January 2000.
After our front-page appearance (on the same day when the Lads were
cheated out of the FA Cup against Tranmere), the weekly hits to SAFCnet
more than doubled.
After two years, it was time to move on. The hosts for SAFCnet were
unable to offer us the flexibility we wanted, without paying an
extortionate price. So OneSunderland took over from SAFCnet, and we
will continue along the same vein as we have done.
At OneSunderland, we aim to keep providing the latest hard
hitting news and gossip from Sunderland AFC - whether it's in the
Premiership, the Football League, or beyond.
